Meet Hobbs
The beagle behind the brand.

The Shelter Pup
In September 2024, a scruffy little beagle walked out of a shelter and into our lives. He was just a few months old, all ears and nose and appetite, and he came home with a bonus nobody asked for: ringworm. Not exactly the homecoming we imagined.
What followed was two months of quarantine — a tiny beagle in a big house, separated from everything he wanted to sniff, chew, and eat (which, to be fair, is everything). Several vet visits and negative tests later, Hobbs was finally declared free and clear. He celebrated the only way he knows how: by eating.
A Beagle of Simple Pleasures
Ask Hobbs about his hobbies and he'll tell you — if he could talk, and if he could stop eating long enough to answer. His interests include, in order of priority:
- Food. Any food. All food. Your food. The concept of food. The memory of food.
- More food. In case the first food runs out.
- Sniffing. Every blade of grass, every corner of every room, every pocket of every jacket. That 400-million-scent-receptor nose doesn't rest.
- Chewing things. Shoes, furniture, crafts — especially handmade ones. He's a very thorough quality tester. If your handmade craft can survive Hobbs, it can survive anything.
- Chasing yard friends. Squirrels, rabbits, birds, the neighbor's cat, that one suspicious leaf — Hobbs has lots of animal friends in the yard and he would very much like to catch up with all of them. Literally.
- Lots of energy. The boy has lots. Zoomies at 6 AM. Zoomies at 10 PM. Zoomies because a leaf moved. The beagle battery never fully drains, it just temporarily redirects to sniffing.
Why "Hobbsy"?
Every marketplace needs a story. Ours starts with a shelter beagle who tested every boundary, chewed every corner, and loved every person he met from day one. Hobbs doesn't care where something came from — he just knows if it's good (usually by attempting to eat it).
That's the spirit behind Hobbsy: a place where good things find good homes. Handmade goods crafted with care by real people, discovered by folks who appreciate something a little more personal than what comes off an assembly line. Things worth sniffing out.
The tricolor palette you see across the site? That's Hobbs too — the caramel tan of his coat, the cream of his chest, and the deep burgundy of his collar. He didn't choose to be a brand mascot, but then again, he also didn't choose to spend two months in ringworm quarantine. Life comes at you fast when you're a beagle.
The Mission
Hobbsy is a marketplace for handmade, vintage, and craft goods. We connect independent makers and sellers with people who value craftsmanship over mass production. We keep fees fair (3% — that's it), we put sellers in control of their shops, and we believe the best products come from people who love what they make.
Hobbs believes the best products come from the kitchen counter when you're not looking, but we respectfully disagree on that point.
Hobbs was a shelter dog. If you're thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting.
